Chris Jordan has been one of the most prolific performers for the England team and for his county side Sussex. The Sussex team has been sitting comfortably on the third spot in the points table. Jordan recently came into news for his amazing performance against Durham in the ongoing County Championship Division Two match at Hove.
Durham won the toss and elected to bat first. Opener and captain Cameron Bancroft hit 126*, while wicketkeeper Ned Eckersley is unbeaten on 74* as the two batsmen fought back to repel a tremendous onslaught by Chris Jordan. The right-arm fast bowler took advantage of the rains in the morning and picked four wickets for just 41 runs in 22 overs.
Jordan gets interviewed in a pool
Chris Jordan was happy with his performance and was spending some nice time in a pool in the showers when the media reached for quips from the fast bowler. “I’m pretty happy to get wickets and contribute to the team. I would like us to be in a better position, given the chances that we created. We missed a couple of chances. But at the end of the day I would say it’s honours even and we need to make some inroads with the new ball in the morning,” Jordan was quoted as saying.
Jordan has appeared in 8 Tests, 31 ODIs and 39 T20Is for England and like latest sensation Jofra Archer, has moved to England from Barbados. In the match against Durham, Jordan picked three wickets in eight balls and only a 169-run unbeaten stand between Bancroft and Eckersley helped Durham rebuild the innings.
They broke the record of Sherwin Campbell and Chris Scott in 1996, who had added 129 runs for the sixth wicket. Bancroft went on to reach his hundred – beating his previous best score for the county of 70 off 179 balls. There were ten fours and a straight six off spinner Luke Wells.
Jordan praised Bancroft in the interview and said, “Now it all depends how we come back in the morning. Cameron showed why he is an international player. He went through the gears. He’s a quality player. We will want to get him out early in the morning.”
