One of the biggest boosts in the ongoing edition of the IPL for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has been the scintillating form of their opener Chris Lynn. KKR shocked everyone when they sent out Lynn alongside skipper Gautam Gambhir to open the innings in their season’s first clash. This move however worked out brilliantly for the two-time champions as Lynn hit a swashbuckling 93 off 41 balls and KKR got off to a dream start to their campaign.

The Australian however, later, suffered an injury after landing straight on his left shoulder while trying to take a catch during Kolkata’s match against Mumbai Indians. This ensured he missed a major part of the season for KKR. Nevertheless, since his comeback, Lynn has again been brilliant for the franchise from Kolkata. In the four games he has played so far, Lynn has scored 259 runs at a staggering average of 186.33.

Taking into account his destructive batting performance in the IPL Australian cricket team might consider Lynn as an opener alongside David Warner for the upcoming Champions Trophy. If this happens, then the Aussies could well unleash one of the most dangerous opening pairs in the event.

Desire to partner Warner

While speaking to cricket.com.au, Lynn has himself expressed his desire to open and said, “I would never knock back the opportunity to open. You only get a couple of fielders outside the ring for 10 overs. That would be my preferred spot. And it would be the best seat in the house to watch Davey (Warner) bat.”

“Davey (Warner) went through the white-ball format to get to Test cricket but also right now he’s one of the most dominant red-ball players in the world.” “So I’ve got a long way to go before anything like that happens for me. Firstly I’ve got to try and dominate the white ball on the international stage rather than just domestic competitions,” the Queenslander said.

However, Lynn also added, “Obviously it’s whatever role that ‘Smitty’( Smith) would give me, I’m comfortable wherever. It’s a privilege to be a part of that line-up. I’ve got no issues coming in at the death and trying to bang the ball. You go out there with freedom, with a license to whack the ball. That’s something I’m more than comfortable with.”

No matter where Lynn plays, his presence will be a big boost to Australia’s hopes and a nightmare for the opponents.
