The hard-hitting Australian batsman Chris Lynn has been one of the top attractions of the shortest format of the game. He is known for his six hitting abilities. As much as he is renowned for clearing the ropes, he is known for falling prey to the injuries as well. In the last couple of years, he has seen several injuries plaguing his potentially bright cricket career.

Earlier this year, he had undergone a shoulder surgery. He then made a comeback through the IPL, where he played for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He lit up the tournament with an unbeaten 93 there. Soon, after a couple of games, the injury haunted him again and he missed a major part of the tournament. Now, Chris Lynn went for the shoulder reconstruction surgery yet again.

The surgery will now see him miss out on the first half of the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). This has truly dented the Brisbane Heats lineup. Playing for the heats, Lynn had hit 26 sixes in the previous edition of the BBL and was named as the Player of the Tournament. As per the quotes in news.com.au, Chris Lynn mentioned that the surgery was inevitable and was a strong call. He noted that he wishes to stay fit all through the year.

“It has been frustrating but it was the right decision to get it done. I want to play through tournaments and hopefully make a mark and be fully fit for 12 months. I want to put the shoulder injury to bed. I want to go back to enjoying my cricket and being pain-free. I have to change my dynamic slightly but I won’t be changing the way I bat. I need to be more cautious in the field. Running around on the boundary is not an option. I might have to stop a few with the boot,” quoted Chris Lynn.

On longevity and form

Another surgery on the same shoulder could potentially mean an end to his cricket career. But thinking of the longer run, Lynn went ahead with the reconstruction. He further remarked that he wants to light up the crowds in Gabba yet again with his big shots in the BBL.

“Longevity was why I took that’ option to have the operation. Is a short-term loss for a long-term gain. They (career-ending) are words you don’t want to hear but they are down that path. I’ve got to be more cautious and have more smarts about how I go about things,” Lynn mentioned.

“I am zero or 100 but there are times I have to reel it back and get another 10 years out of my career. We’ll see how smart I am in the next 12 months. I’d love to get back (for the BBL) and walk out in front of the Gabba again. It’s something I get really excited and nervous about as well. My fingers are crossed for the Big Bash,” he added further.
