Chris Lynn leaves CPL prematurely in a bid to seal a World Cup spot
He has played only a solitary ODI for Australia.
The power-hitting Australia batsman Chris Lynn has joined Queensland Bulls ahead of the domestic One-Day tournament. He left the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) midway after playing only six matches for his franchise Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR). He was rather going through a lean phase this season and had only mustered 74 runs with the bat.
Lynn last played a domestic One-Day game in 2013 and he was even named the skipper of his team the very next year. But his troubled shoulder didn’t allow him to feature in the season. With Steve Smith and David Warner banned, a few spots are up for grabs in the Australian team and Lynn will eager to make a statement in the One-Day tournament commencing from September 16.
Lynn realises he will have to perform
Chris Lynn, while speaking to cricket.com.au, revealed that he had a discussion with Australia head coach Justin Langer before leaving for the T20 tournament. Langer wanted him to stay fit and don’t let injury or his form to be the reason for his exclusion from the team.
“(Langer) has expressed that the World Cup is there, but whether or not there’s a spot for me is up to me. He said to keep the body right and don’t give anyone any reason to say no to you. So the chance is there but I’ve got to bang the door down with runs. It’s as simple as that,” Lynn said.
The 28-year-old has played only a solitary ODI for Australia back in January 2017 against Pakistan when he scored only 16 runs. He was soon injured and then was never considered. He has managed to be fit for a long period of time now and if he sizzles in the domestic arena, there is every chance that of him nailing a spot for the World Cup.
