An unfortunate neck injury has ruled Australian batsman Chris Lynn out of the Pakistan ODI series. This development comes as a bitter disappointment and barely a few days after the latter was given his ODI debut. Lynn was handed his debut in the first ODI against Pakistan at the GABBA in Brisbane, a ground that he holds quite dear to his heart.

However, after a few lusty blows into the stands, Lynn’s innings was cut short after he tried to be aggressive by smashing the ball once too often. After being left out of the side in the second ODI, the Australia team management went on to add that Lynn had indeed suffered a rather unfortunate injury to his neck, something that he played with as well.

Darren Lehmann, the coach of the Australian cricket team at the moment also went on to add that they would not want Lynn to aggravate his injury.

“He’s been playing through a lot of pain even during the BBL and he’s got to the stage where he can’t function anymore,” Darren Lehmann said. “He’ll have a couple of weeks of no cricket … he’s got to calm down the neck because it’s quite aggravated.

“He’ll start his rehab now and he won’t be doing too much strenuous stuff before he hopefully gets back for the Sri Lankan series.”

While this injury sees Lynn ruled out of the Pakistan series, he is also expected to be ruled out of the three-match T20 international series against New Zealand and is only expected to make his way back into the side for the home series against Sri Lanka. He will be replaced by 25-year old Peter Handscomb in the interim.

Australia squad: Steve Smith (c), David Warner, Usman Khawaja,  Peter Handscomb, Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Wade, James Faulkner, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Billy Stanlake
