Australia’s explosive batter Chris Lynn’s participation in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) fifth edition is doubtful. The right-hander has had a lot of injury troubles in the recent past including a neck injury during the Pakistan series last year. The fifth edition of the tournament starts from November 2 and Lynn was to represent Khulna Titans.
The 27-year-old is expected to undergo a shoulder surgery which will keep him out of action till the end of the year. Lynn also had to miss many games in the IPL season 10 due to the shoulder injury. However, he returned in the second half of the tournament and scored 295 runs in 7 matches at a strike rate of more than 180.
Tough time
The Aussie has been in a lot of pain for a year now. He has been playing a lot of cricket all over the world including the Big Bash League, domestic cricket in Australia and the IPL in India. “I have been battling through each tournament and umming and arring at training but the time has come to get it done,” said Lynn.
“I was getting sorer and sorer after training. I am pretty confident I will be back for the Big Bash season. I was supposed to play in the CPL on Wednesday so I have had to give them the bad news. I will cost myself a bit but physically and mentally it will mean a lot to get it done. Right now it is about 50% and declining. If I can get it up to around 90%, I would be real happy with that,” he added.
Chris Lynn has probably not donned the Aussie colours as often as he should’ve in his short stint. He has played 1 ODI and 5 T20Is in which he has a tally of 16 and 65 runs respectively. However, his first-class numbers are very impressive as the big hitter has scored 2743 runs in 41 games at an average of 43 with the highest score of 250 runs. Chris has a bright future ahead in his career as he is a talented cricketer who has a strong bottom hand.
He will be forced to miss quite a few tournaments due to the injury which includes the Caribbean Premier League T20, Australia’s proposed ODI tour of India in September-October, the BPL and the Big Bash League in Australia.
Discussion on foreign players
There are just 4 months remaining for the Bangladesh Premier League’s fifth edition to kick off. The BPL Governing Council in a meeting will discuss the names of the eight icon players for the upcoming season. The council will also discuss the policy on foreign players in the playing eleven. It had asked the franchises to submit an opinion on the permissible number of foreign players in the playing XI, to which the franchises suggested that they should be allowed to use a maximum of five overseas players in XI.
