Chris Morris expresses his elation after being retained by Delhi Daredevils

Chris Morris has been an asset to Team South Africa with both bat and ball. While he generates pace and bounce off the wicket, he can also smack a few off the willow. He has grown in leaps and bounds as a cricketer and has developed himself into a dependable cricketer for whichever team he represents. Apart from international Cricket, the Pretoria-born talent has also impressed in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Five seasons ago, he was bagged for a whopping $625,000 by the Chennai Super Kings, which was approximately 31 times his base price of $20,000. He failed to make an impact and consequently, didn’t get too many opportunities in the star-studded lineup. However, his fortunes changed when he was bagged by the Delhi Daredevils for $1 million in 2016. The move paid dividends as he emerged as one of their gun players.

Morris back to the Daredevils

After a disappointing season in 2017, it wouldn’t have been bewildering had the Delhi Daredevils elected to buy a fresh set of players and start their upcoming campaign afresh. However, in the recent IPL retention program, they retained three of their most consistent performers- Christopher Henry Morris being one of them. After the retention, Morris took to Twitter and expressed his joy to his fans. He wrote “Over the moon to be retained by @DelhiDaredevils Looking forward to this season! #DilDilli.”

Morris has been lethal with the willow for the Delhi franchise, in particular against that one game against the Gujarat Lions, where he nearly snatched victory for the Daredevils from a state of hopelessness. He scored a whirlwind 82 runs off 32 balls, which included four boundaries and eight colossal hits over the ropes. He also impressed with the ball all throughout and picked up wickets at crunch moments of the contest.

Delhi Daredevils have been inconsistent throughout their IPL campaigns. The team will be looking to dish out some decent performances in the upcoming season. Apart from Morris, the franchise has retained Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, both of whom have performed well for them in the erstwhile seasons.
