It was a tale of two halves for Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL). But the worst part was that the second half of RR batting innings enabled them to lose the game by seven wickets. It all started to go haywire for RR when they lost their opener, Evin Lewis, at 100 for two. From there, they completely lost the plot and squandered the opportunity by losing the next seven wickets for just 51 runs.
RR ended up posting 149, and it was still a competitive total. RCB batters had other ideas and wanted to canter home so that they could improve on their negative run rate. RR bowlers too just kept bowling to the strengths of Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, Srikar Bharat, and Glenn Maxwell. The biggest culprit of RR’s bowlers was Chris Morris- their lead pacer. The big-hitting all-rounder went for 50 runs off his four overs and also didn’t have any wickets.
Kumar Sangakkara, director of Rajasthan Royals was unimpressed by Morris’ poor bowling and said it was a poor performance and he knows that he has let his team down. Morris is yet to bag a wicket in the UAE leg of the IPL and so far he has been expensive in the three matches that he has played.
Kumar Sangakkara unhappy about Chris Morris’s performances in the UAE leg of IPL
“Chris Morris did brilliantly for us in the first half, and he has not done the job as we would have liked him to in the second half. He knows that and we know that. 50 runs from four overs, his last over were the last throw of the dice to try and get a wicket. We were well out of the game at that point.
”He has done well for us in certain parts, and whoever we think of playing next will be the best person to come into the side to play against the opposition,” said Sangakkara during a virtual post-match press conference.
Speaking about the match, RCB batters led by Glenn Maxwell, who scored an unbeaten 50 enabled them to finish off the chase with three overs to spare. He was well supported by Srikar Bharat, who made a fine contribution of 44 runs.
