Chris Nenzani resigns as Cricket South Africa (CSA) president
On their website, Cricket South Africa gave out the news and also thanked Nenzani for his services on the behalf of the council and board of directors.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) is going through a serious downfall. The team is not doing as per the standards from quite a sometime and so is the board. Now. Chris Nenzani the president has finally resigned from his position. The organization is under great scrutiny and his departure was all but confirmed as he has decided to quit 22 days before he would have forced to quit.
Nenzani became the president in February 2013 and enjoyed his time as the president for two terms. A CSA term for president is for 3 years and a president can only be elected twice consecutively. After that, the CSA regulations were changed to squeeze an extra year for him last year. He was expected to quit the position on 5th September in the board’s annual meeting but he resigned 22 days prior.
CSA’s governance was working smoothly before September 2017. The time when Thabang Moroe joined the organization as the acting chief executive officer. Moroe was vice president before that but took the role when Haroon Lorgat’s clouded departure happened.
Thabang Moroe joined the position full time in July 2018 and a series of controversies began. Both Nenzani and Moroe were allies before they chose opposite sides later. Moroe was finally suspended in December 2019 and now his rival has also resigned.
Beresford Williams will take on the vacant seat till September 5th
On their website, Cricket South Africa gave out the news and also thanked Nenzani for his services on the behalf of the council and board of directors.
“On behalf of Cricket South Africa’s Members Council and the board of directors, we thank Mr Nenzani for his contributions to Cricket South Africa and for being a loyal servant to the game of cricket for over 20 years. We wish him well in his future endeavours, and we are sure that he will continue to contribute to the game of cricket.”
The apex body of cricket also mentioned that as per the Memorandum of Incorporation, Vice President Beresford Williams will take on the vacant seat. He will be in charge till the time new president is elected in the annual meeting on September 5th.
“The Members Council notes that in terms of the Memorandum of Incorporation (MOI) the Vice President, Mr Beresford Williams will act as President of the Members Council until the appointment of a new President at the AGM scheduled for the 5th of September 2020.”
