The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have appointed Chris Silverwood as the new bowling coach of the national side. Silverwood, who has been a successful coach in the English domemstic circuit, will be taking over the role after the conclusion of the Ashes. England were left without the services of a bowling coach, after their former bowling coach Otis Gibson ended his contract with the ECB.

Otis Gibson is currently the head coach of the South African national side. Talking about Chris Silverwood, the 42-year old former English cricketer, recently coached the Essex team to a historic County Championship win. Silverwood will be traveling to Australia as a part of the team management of the England Lions later this month before he assumes the full time role of the bowling coach of the national side in January next year.

The England team will be having the services of former New Zealand cricketer Shane Bond as the bowling consultant for the first two Tests in the Ashes. Bond will then be leaving the duty in order to manage his other T20 commitments.

In his absence, former cricketer Paul Collingwood will assume the role of the bowling coach for the remainder of the Ashes series. Collingwood will be travelling with the England team in the capacity of fielding coach. It will be after Bond’s exit that he will oversee the bowlers as well. After the Ashes, the full time tenure of Chris Silverwood would commence.

Ashes 2017-18

Talking about the Ashes, the first match of the coveted rivalry will commence on November 23 at the Gabba, Brisbane. England would want to improve their record down under. They were humiliated severely the last time they had toured Australia. It was in the 2013-14 season when the Ashes was last played in Australia. The hosts had whitewashed the English side 5-0 to earn the glory. However, in 2015, England beat the Aussies 3-2 to regain the Ashes and are the current holders of it.
