Chennaiyin FC notched their game to a level befitting the occasion and sent Bengaluru FC crushing to a painful defeat, clinching the Indian Super League (ISL) title in style on Saturday (17 March).Chennaiyin FC’s Mailson Alves with his superlative performance turned out to be the star with some Brazilian touch to the game. Though the scoreline is 3-2 in favor of Chennaiyin FC, the game was dominated by the men-in-blue, powering the game for all 90 minutes.
Coach John Gregory, who has been the pillar for Chennaiyin FC right from the start saw the praise coming from all across the world. He has been able to work regressively with full fortitude and helped his side to believe in themselves to have the intent to win. With this thought, the team managed to outclass almost every opposition which eventually helped them to have their second title in first four seasons.
One of several wishes came from England bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes who has been the ardent well wisher for the Chennaiyin franchise. He took Twitter to express his thoughts on this dazzling win and said, “Absolutely over the moon for @JohnGregory77 and @ChennaiyinFC winning the Indian Super League. Congrats mate! Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy! @IndSuperLeague”

Next Assignment for Woakes
Chris Woakes is all set to take the field against the Kiwis in days time for the first of two Test match series. He has been a pivotal part of the white jersey and will once again look to express himself at this stage. After the two-match Test series, Woakes will join Royal Challengers Bangalore who bought him for 7.40 crore. It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to do justice to his selection as he will be expected to lead the bowling attack from the front.
