CID to check petition of the Sri Lankan players on allegations made by Pramodya Wickramasinghe

Former Sri Lankan cricketer and selector Pramodya Wickramasinghe questioned the integrity of the Sri Lankan players. Now the situation has taken a turn. The Sri Lankan players are thinking in the direction of suing the former fast bowler for defamation. The former fast bowler has challenged the integrity of country’s top cricketers. If reports are to be believed, the top 40 cricketers of Sri Lanka have signed a petition which will be handed over to the CID.
CID to probe the petition against Pramodya Wickramasinghe
According to a top SLC official, currently, the matter will be investigated by the two-member committee comprising of Ayesh Weerakoddy and Lakshman de Silva. “At present, the two-member committee (Ayesh Weerakoddy and Lakshman de Silva) will investigate the matter”, the top SLC official said as quoted by the Pak Observer.net
The official further said that the allegations against the cricketers are wrong. He said that if the former fast bowler fails in proving his allegations, a defamation case might be filed against him.
“The allegations on cricketers are false and if the same cannot be proved by Pramodya Wickramasinghe, a defamation case may be filed against him”, the source said.
The former fast bowler was approached by the reporters to comment on the situation. Pramodya argued that he heard the rumours doing the round, therefore he asked for a probe. He said that he had read in the newspapers that ICC will inquire the matter. He further added that he would appear for questioning only if the independent panel is appointed by the SLC.
“I read in the newspapers that the ICC will inquire into the matter. I am yet to be invited for the questioning. I will appear only if the independent panel is appointed by the SLC, not otherwise”. Pramodya added “Even to the ICC, my answer will be the same. I had only aired my views to probe the rumour,” the 47-year-old ex-fast bowler signed off.
