CK Khanna most likely to be next BCCI President

As per the recent reports in the Zee News, the Central Zone vice-president CK Khanna is most likely to replace Anurag Thakur as the next BCCI president. The apex Indian court recently had a massive crackdown at the functioning of the most power cricket board in the world, the BCCI. Supreme Court gave a huge setback to the BCCI by sacking its president Anurag Thakur and secretary Ajay Shirke.

A show cause notice subsequently was issued of perjury and contempt of court. Both Thakur and Shirke now have got time until January 19 to reply to the Supreme Court. Soon after the sacking, the next big question that came to the fore was to get the ideal replacements for the top two roles. For a brief while, it was former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, who was being tipped as the forerunner for the post.

Along with Ganguly, the five vice-presidents of the BCCI’s zonal associations were the top contenders for the post. The vice-president of North Zone, Mr. ML Nehru, was ruled out due to his ineligibility as per the court guidelines.

Gautam Roy, the vice president of East Zone has been in the office for over 10 years and hence as per new rules, he has to vacate his office and serve the ‘cooling’ period. The same is applicable for G Gangaraju, the vice-president of the South Zone.

The last name in the list is of Central Zone vice-president CK Khanna. He is now being called as the most likely candidate to take over the post of Anurag Thakur. As per the orders, the new President must comply with the guidelines set by the Lodha Panel and must be eligible for the post as per the rules.

If Khanna is named the new president, it will certainly be a violation of the rule. This is because the rule states that every official must serve a cooling period after having been in the office for 3 years or more. Khanna has been in the state associations for over 9 years and hence violates the ruling. Also, Justice Mukul Mudgal had submitted his report on state associations to the Supreme Court in which he had called CK Khanna as ‘pernicious influence’. It will be worth noting to see if he still gets the nod. The decision has to be made before January 17.
