CoA chief confirms Anil Kumble will continue as the coach for the West Indies tour

Vinod Rai, chief of the Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) has confirmed that current India head coach Anil Kumble will continue as the coach of the Indian cricket team until the next tour. He also clarified that Kumble will continue to coach the team in the West Indies series but whether or not the former Indian skipper accepts to continue depends on him. Kumble’s 1-year tenure comes to an end towards the end of June.

It was earlier reported that Kumble will continue beyond his initial tenure till ICC Champions Trophy 2017 because of lack of time to appoint a possible replacement. “Anil Kumble to continue as India coach till West Indies tour, subject to his acceptance,” said Vinod Rai as per news agency PTI.

In one year of his coaching tenure with the Indian Cricket Team, the Men in Blue scaled a few new heights, also regaining their No.1 spot in ICC Test Rankings. It was said that Kumble and captain Kohli are perfectly complementing each other which is showing in the team’s performance. However, news of rifts between the captain and coach emerged from England. Some also reported that the two are not comfortable sharing space in the nets during practice sessions.

Many complaints about Kumble

Apparently, nobody in the Indian team wants Kumble to continue as the coach. “The difference between 2011 World Cup-winning coach Gary Kirsten and Kumble is that while the former was a friend, who used to keep conversations confidential, Kumble has a habit of giving his own example of strict discipline and then taking the conversation to others,” this is what the players have told the BCCI, as per DNA India.

One of the Indian players even went on to the extent of claiming that Kumble’s stubbornness was why he had to undergo a surgery. After all these accusations, it remains to be seen if the coach can remain at the helm even after the tour of West Indies.
