Hasin Jahan’s allegations have put Mohammed Shami’s career at a standstill. After Jahan said he had multiple extra-marital affairs and there was more to it than what appeared on the surface, Shami’s central contract was withheld by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Thereafter, his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Daredevils stated that they will do as the BCCI prescribes.

Jahan took the claims to another level when she accused him of match-fixing. Once fixing was in the picture the BCCI instructed its Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) to look into the case. Now the board has clarified that Shami’s participation will depend on the conclusions the ACU makes in the case. They have seven days in hand to investigate and then file a report which will be sent to the CoA.

ACU investigation underway

The Supreme Court appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) chief Vinod Rai was the one who has instructed ACU chief Neeraj Kumar to initiate the investigation. Hasin Jahan had claimed that Shami accepted money from a girl Alisbah who is a Pakistani national in Dubai on insistence from a UK-based businessman Mohammad Bhai.

“Since ACU chief Neeraj Kumar is investigating and has been given a seven-day time frame, any decision will be taken after he submits his report. The final decision will be taken by the CoA,” said BCCI’s acting president CK Khanna as quoted as saying on TOI.

He was at the meeting of the IPL Governing Council where they’re also to make decisions for the upcoming edition of the IPL. The GC has allocated Rs 18 crore for the opening ceremony of the 11th edition of the IPL whereas the budget in hand was Rs 30 crore.

“The finance team of BCCI has decided that Rs 18 crore will be spent on the opening ceremony even though the sanctioned budget was Rs 30 crore,” Khanna stated.

Unlike the previous seasons, all the eight captains will be present for the opening ceremony this time on April 7. However, the captain’s pledge event where they sign to play the tournament with the Spirit of Cricket will be hosted a day prior on April 6 in Mumbai.
