For many following the ongoing Shami-Hasin scandal, this may come as quite the ‘big news’ after 28-year old Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been found ‘Not Guilty’ by the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Anti-Corruption Unit. In addition to this, the Board has awarded the pacer a Grade ‘B’ central contract for the year, something that is certainly not good news for his estranged wife Hasin Jahan.
The scandal, that has been stealing headlines in recent times has seen Hasin Jahan accuse the 28-year old of a farrago of charges, some of which were quite shocking as far as Shami fans around the world are concerned. However, now that the CoA has cleared and dismissed the charges, Shami can now return to the field of play not only for the country but also his most immediate assignment – the Indian Premier League.
The board had earlier withheld Shami’s contract following charges of match-fixing and domestic violence against his wife, a few of the charges that he is still booked under.
The fight between Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan far from concluded
While the 28-year old may have his contract and much of his prestige reinstated, the fight between the duo is far from over. There remain several charges that are currently pending from both sides. Apart from the bevy of charges he faced, Shami is also charged with adultery, domestic violence, and attempt to murder.
Recently, Jahan has requested an audience with Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in a bid to ‘share her pain’. She had allegedly spoken to former India skipper Sourav Ganguly about the same as well.
More recently, Shami released a bank statement where he paid his wife 1 Lakh rupees, something that has come down on the investigation on her extravagant spending.
