The Committee of Administrators (CoA), which is struggling to obtain its stranglehold on the decisions made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India already, now have issues accommodating the demands of one of the members of their panel by the name of Diana Edulji.

Despite two members of the CoA i.e., Vikram Limaye and Vinod Rai, being thoroughly convinced about BCCI’s decision to send out a fresh statement inviting applications for the role of the coach, acknowledging that more candidates would be interested in the job. However, Edulji admitted that she questioned about the motive of the extension of the window, despite only five applicants have applied for the job.

Growing sense of discomfort within CoA

The members of the CoA have not revealed about Edulji’s ways of functioning but there is a growing sense of discomfort among the members of the panel and over the manner in which she’s gone about with her role. Diana Edulji, who has played 20 Test matches for India, had demanded that the Supreme Court be requested to appoint former India coach Anil Kumble in the CoA panel as one of the replacement considering historian Ramchandra Guha has already quit while banker Vikram Limaye will exit next month.

“There’s no harm in cricketers receiving one-time benefit. Whether the cricketer has played one game or too many doesn’t matter. But what is not agreeable is such an idea being passed without being approved by the general body. There’s no way that a pension scheme is going to be even discussed outside of the general body. If the same courtesy were to be extended to male cricketers, BCCI will have to dole out payments anywhere between Rs 11 and 13 crore. Money is not the thing here. The question is if this is the correct thing to do,” quoted BCCI official regarding the incident.
