Test cricket is dying. We hear this line every now and then. The fans across the world do not turn up for the longer format of the game at the stadiums. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC), to protect the same, worked upon playing a day-night Test which will attract the crowd. Almost all the top side’s in the world have played the day-night match.

However, BCCI, cricket’s richest body has shown their reservations in playing the day-night games. There was a news of India possibly hosting Windies for their first-ever pink ball match. BCCI’s tour, programme, and fixtures (TPF) had eventually finalized a venue for the match. Rajkot was decided to be the host for India’s first day-night Test.

What’s the problem now?

West Indies is touring India in October and as per the agreement, one of the games at Rajkot was decided to be the country’s first-ever day-night game. Interestingly, Committee of Administrators (COA) has put the decision on a hold as it has asked the BCCI certain questions and until that gets cleared, the finalization will be under scrutiny.

COA has asked the acting secretary of CCI, Amitabh Choudhary that everyone needs to access a couple of things before anything can be finalized. According to the COA, match playing specifications and playing conditions of the ICC needs to be assessed. The COA has asked the BCCI to check on everything and then present the details in front of them.

Notably, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri was involved in an exchange with Amitabh Choudhary regarding the same. Choudhary had questioned the possibility of dew during the night affecting the matches. Shastri though was of the thought that the first-ever match can be played as an experiment. To get rid of the dew factor, Shastri had suggested that the game should start at 12 noon.

With the decision upheld, It seems the Indian fans might have to wait a little longer to witness their first-ever day-night Test.
