Colin de Grandhomme will strive to prove himself in the series against India
Having played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the stout all-rounder has had his share of experience at playing on sub-continent pitches all over the country.
All-rounder, Colin de Grandhomme will seek to prove his mettle in the series against India. With both Jimmy Neesham and Corey Anderson out of contention, de Grandhomme has emerged as the frontline pace bowling all-rounder. However, whether or not he manages to cement his position in the New Zealand side will depend largely on his performance in the limited-overs series against India.
31-year old de Grandhomme is anything but a stranger to Indian conditions. Having played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL), the stout all-rounder has had his share of experience at playing on sub-continent pitches all over the country. He will look to implement his skills with both the bat and the ball if New Zealand are to have a fighting chance at winning the series.
New Zealand Coach wants Colin de Grandhomme to be given a chance
New Zealand coach, Mike Hesson lauded de Grandhomme on his talent and effort. Speaking about him before departing for India, Hesson said, “Colin deserves some further opportunities there. His development over the last 12 months has been impressive but we want to see that he can navigate us to a win and control those back end overs. He’s got the power to do it, and with the ball he’s a bit different from the others and there’s a chance to perform in those conditions.”
With Corey Anderson sitting it out owing to his recent back surgery, de Grandhomme will only look to go from strength to strength and aim at securing a spot in the 2019 World Cup squad. Having played 9 ODIs for the Black Caps in the lower order, he’s amassed 165 runs at a strike of 97.63 and and picked up 7 wickets at an economy of 5.26. Armed with such promising figures, Colin de Grandhomme will be hoping to produce a few match-winning performances in the India series and improve his figures further, along with becoming a permanent fixture in the national side.
