Colin Ingram expresses his wish to play for South Africa again
He will play for the Delhi Capitals this IPL season.
South Africa has suffered the most with its cricketers signing the Kolpak deal with the County teams in England. One such player is Colin Ingram who last played for the Proteas way back in 2013 after which he too signed a deal with Glamorgan and has been playing in the T20 leagues around the world. However, the left-handed batsman is still hoping to play for his country again and is waiting for the selectors to call him.
Ingram is currently plying his trade in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) and will also be playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting from March 23. He is set to play for the Delhi Capitals this season who shelled out a huge amount of Rs 6.4 crores in the auction in December 2018.
As far as his career for South Africa is concerned, Colin Ingram played 31 ODIs and nine T20 Internationals during the period from 2010 to 2013.
It is unfortunate
Colin Ingram, while speaking to Khaleej Times, felt it was unfortunate he is no more playing for his country and stressed he would love to step on the field for the Proteas again. “It is unfortunate that I am not the part of the national team. It is more than four years and I always keep my phone open that I may receive a call from selectors, but it has not happened yet,” the 33-year-old said.
He also acknowledged the presence of the T20 leagues across the world for the players like him while also stating that he has moved on in the past few years. “Luckily there are a lot of T20 tournaments in the world which provide chances to players like me to remain in the business. I have been playing county cricket and I have moved on. It really is a difficult question for me,” Ingram further added.
