Colt Riyan Parag is an absolutely potential superstar, says Dean Jones
The 17-year-old playing for RR in the ongoing IPL scored 2 forties and a fifty becoming the youngest in the event's history to score a half-ton.
Be aware, the new kid on the block can give fitting replies to the chin music produced by stalwart quicks. The 17-year-old wonder kid from Assam, Riyan Parag, has won many hearts in his innocent yet mature performance in the IPL 2019 edition. The Rajasthan Royals recruit of this season has impressed fans and experts and has left a mark in the IPL even though his team did not make the cut for the playoffs.
Parag was able to amass only 160 runs from seven matches that he played in this season but there’s no denying to his striking ability. Added to that is his ability to respond in pressure situations, that is truly commendable for a 17-year-old. Giving him credit for this striking ability is former Australian cricketer Dean Jones who has called Parag a “potential superstar”.
The IPL Dug-Out experts are all in praises for the young brigade in the marquee Premier League. Even though their franchises were knocked out ahead of the Playoffs, the experts have acknowledged the individual talent and effort of these players. Another Dug-Out expert, the former England bowler, Dominic Cork was also full of hopes for the emerging star Navdeep Saini and India’s “massive future” with him.
Dean Jones compares Parag’s striking to that of De Villiers’
Backing Parag, who scored two commendable forties and a remarkable fifty in this season, is the former Australian star batsman Dean Jones. Parag’s fifty against the Delhi Capitals is considered remarkable because with it he became the youngest player to register an IPL fifty.
The Australian ‘Select Dug-Out’ expert has acknowledged the talent of the teenager and heaped praise on him. “Riyan Parag is an absolute potential superstar. I reckon he plays amazing shots to all parts of the ground,” Dean Jones was quoted saying, according to IndiaToday. “He has amazing stroke play and is good on the back foot and front foot, he is good everywhere. He has a knack for getting into the right position just as the ball is released,” Jones added.
Dean Jones further compared Parag’s striking abilities to the likes of star batsman AB de Villiers. “Just like (South African superstar) AB de Villiers he gives himself access to the ball to hit it 360 degrees,” concluded Jones.
