'Come on Chandi, throw your wicket away' - Dinesh Chandimal gifts his wicket after Joe Root sledges him
Chandimal lived up to the expectations of Root as on the very next ball he played a reckless shot and gifted his wicket to the opposition.
England and Sri Lanka are up against each other in a thrilling ongoing last Test of the two-match series at Galle International Stadium. The hosts aren’t having the best of times on the field as after registering a comprehensive defeat in the first game by 7 wickets, they are all set to lose the second game too.
The second Test had commenced with home captain Dinesh Chandimal winning the toss and electing to bat first. Sri Lanka looked in good touch as they managed to rack up a total of 381 on the board in the first innings on the back of a stunning century by Angelo Mathews. Niroshan Dickwella and Dilruwan Perara were also decent with the willow as they added 92 and 67 runs respectively to the scoreboard.
Batting in the second innings England were bundled out of 344 runs. Captain Joe Root emerged as the highest run-getter for his team with a scintillating knock of 189 runs. For Sri Lanka, left-arm orthodox bowler Lasith Embuldeniya had shone with the ball as he took a seven-wicket haul while bowling at an economy of 3.3.

However, Sri Lanka couldn’t capitalize on the 37-run lead as they witnessed a collapse of their batting line-up in the third innings. The right-arm off-break bowler Dominic Bess and left-arm orthodox bowler Jack Leach ran through the hosts’ feeble batting line-up as they took four wickets each and managed to bowl out the opposition team at a mere score of 126 runs.
However, the third innings saw a comical incident as Sri Lankan captain Dinesh Chandimal fell prey to opposition skipper Joe Root sledging. In the 16th over, Sri Lanka needed a captain innings from Chandimal to save the team from sinking. The skipper was looking in good touch when Root, fielding on the slip position beside the wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow, tried to distract the batsman by shouting, “Come on Chandi, Throw Your Wicket Away.”
Chandimal lived up to the expectations of Root as on the very next ball he played a reckless shot and gifted his wicket to the opposition. James Anderson took an easy catch on the delivery off Jack Leach to send Chandimal back to the pavilion after scoring 9 runs.
