The controversy is never too far away when Australia is playing. While the ongoing Test series between them and South Africa has been already marred with too many unwanted incidents, the new one is ready to make the headlines which are definitely going to create shockwaves in the cricketing world. Cameron Bancroft was clearly caught on cameras while tampering the ball with a yellow-coloured chip-like object. Furthermore, he was also seen hiding the same in his pants after sometime before umpires investigated it.

The action in the middle was clearly intriguing with the ball reverse swinging to a lot of extent even as the duo of Aiden Markram and AB de Villiers were batting gamely. While it was clearly frustrating for the Aussies that they were not succumbing to the pressure, the visitors seemed to have planned something really fishy due to which their spirit will be questioned.

Overall incident

In between the overs, Cameron Bancroft was clearly seen tampering the ball with a yellow-coloured chip-like object. Soon after the team management understood that their actions have been caught in the cameras, the message came from the dressing room via a walkie-talkie to the reserve player Peter Handscomb who was sitting in the dugout. He was right away on the ground substituting for some player and standing beside Bancroft talking to him about the incident.

However, soon after the message was passed to him, Bancroft put that object in his pants which was also caught by the cameras. Clearly, the incident has taken social media by storm as the shameful tactics of Australian cricket team have been exposed. Even the captain and the coach could come under the scanner over this incident now and Bancroft might face some serious allegations from match referee.

Interestingly, according to CricProf, the ball swung more in the later stages of the innings. Between overs 15 and 25, Australia managed to find 0.5 degrees of swing, while it increased to 1.5 degrees after that which is a huge difference it cricket. Even Graeme Smith on air criticised the tactics and he clearly accused Cameron Bancroft of tampering the ball.

Andy Pycroft is the match referee for the ongoing Test match and surely the happenings in the middle would be scrutinised after the end of day’s play.
