Confidence with which Rahul Dravid played Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis made us believe that he is special: Inzamam-ul-Haq
Rahul Dravid was capable of flaunting extraordinary courage even when he was new in the game.
Popularly known as the wall of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid was one man who showed extraordinary courage while tackling odd situations and kept standing on crease endlessly. In the same light, former Pakistan great Inzamam-ul-Haq heaped praises on Dravid and added his notion of why he believed that former India no. 3 was special. The 50-year-old Pakistan batsman narrated the incident where he got to know how capable Rahul Dravid was.
Inzamam saw him playing first time in Canada, and people told him that the new Indian boy plays well. However, Inzamam had to believe his eyes when he actually saw Dravid showing extraordinary confidence against the likes of Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. These Pakistani pacers had the capability to “terrorise” the youngsters just by their names, but Dravid was all set in a different zone.
“When I first saw him, I remember we were playing in Canada. Someone told me that this new boy plays well. So I thought of having a look at him. We had Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, who were known to terrorise the youngsters with their pace and swing. Wasim and Waqar’s name was enough for any youngster. But the confidence with which Dravid played them made us believe that he is special,” said Inzamam on his YouTube channel.
Rahul Dravid was skilled enough to handle all the odds
The classy batter of Pakistan added that Rahul Dravid would go on to flaunt his willow show even when spinners bowled in a rough. He added that he has seen several big names struggling against spinners bowling into the rough, but Dravid was unshakeable. Also, Dravid not only scored runs at home, but his away record was equally outstanding.
“It is very difficult to score runs when spinners bowl from around the wicket and into the rough. In a Test against India in Kolkata, I asked Danish Kaneria to bowl to him from around the wicket, but after a while, I realised that he was scoring more runs against him. I have seen a lot of great players struggle to score when the spinner bowls into the rough, but Dravid made it look so easy,” Inzi concluded.
