The Afghanistan cricket team came into the limelight during the 2010 ICC T20 World Cup. It was their first appearance at a top-level ICC tournament. Although the Afghans could not win a match in that competition, they improved their game and became a Test-playing nation by the next decade.

The Afghanistan cricket team played its first T20I match against Ireland at P Sara Oval. It is noteworthy that there was no Man of the Match award in the first T20Is featuring the Afghanistan cricket team. In their third T20I, they battled Ireland in the 2009-10 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers.

All-rounder Mohammad Nabi shone for the Afghanistan cricket team, scoring 43 runs and taking two wickets. He slammed three fours and two sixes in his knock at the Dubai International Stadium. Currently, Nabi is one of the most sought-after all-rounders in T20 cricket.
