Veteran pacer James Anderson knocked over his former England skipper Joe Root during a group stage clash of their domestic sides in the 2022 County Championship. The senior pacer enjoyed the wicket as he jumped in the air in celebration before joining his teammates in a huddle.
Anderson bowled a full-length delivery and it drew the former skipper Root forward to play a defensive stroke. However, the red cherry still found its way to breach Root’s defense and went on to shatter the stumps. A dejected Root was then seen trudging back to the pavilion.

It must be noted that former skipper Root and the national selectors dropped two of their most senior players Anderson and Stuart Broad during the tour of West Indies, which might have upset the senior pacers.
Both Anderson and Broad opened up on how they received a five-minute call from the management committee that they are not included in England squad for the West Indies tour. While Anderson expressed his disappointment during a podcast show, Broad wrote a few columns to express their displeasure over the decision.
“I don’t think I’m extremely stubborn. I will take advice and feedback from people. You’d have to ask Joe what he meant by that. The deeper Joe Root has got into the captaincy the harder it’s been to be as matey as we probably were. But hopefully, that’ll now be easier to get back on those matey terms,” James Anderson had said in a BBC Podcast.
“I have to confess that I wasn’t expecting the phone call I received from Andrew Strauss on Tuesday that started with him saying: ‘I’ve got some bad news.’ That’s not what you really want to hear on selection matters and not something I have heard very often during my career of 152 Test caps. To be honest, though, that’s been quite tricky this time because the decision to leave me out of the tour of West Indies has hit me pretty hard.” Broad had written in his column for the Mail.
Meanwhile, the England Cricket Broad (ECB) has already named Ben Stokes as their new Test team skipper and former New Zealand player Brendon McCullum has been appointed as head coach for the Test team. Their first assignment will start on June 2 with New Zealand touring England for a three-match Test series.
