Courtney Webb to represent Melbourne Renegades in the seventh edition of WBBL

Apart from announcing that Sophie Molineux will lead the squad in the seventh edition of Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), Melbourne Renegades have now inked a two-year deal with young batter Courtney Webb. The right-hand batter was truly one of the finds of season for the franchise and the management has rightly shown faith in the youngster by making her stay with the team for two more years.

Apart from being a good batter, Webb is also a terrific fielder as evidenced by the fact of the stunning catch she had taken in the last edition of WBBL. She ran backwards and put in a brilliant dive to dismiss star Sydney Sixers batter Ellyse Perry. That catch was described by many experts and critics as the ‘catch of the tournament’ and made Webb famous on social media.

With the franchise backing her do well, the right-hand batter would be keen to justify the faith shown by the Renegades management. The 21-year-old has played 39 matches for the team scoring 556 runs at an average of 25.27. She often comes as a finisher and contributes by scoring handy runs. But the value she brings while fielding is second to none.

Melbourne Renegades will look to finally end the trophy drought

The women in Red are one of the most unlucky teams. During the 2018 edition of the WBBL, they came agonizingly close to making the finals, before a stop by Erin Burns and a throw denied them to make the finals. That loss still haunts the Renegades as they are yet to reach the finals of the WBBL.

With a change in captaincy and the availability of former skipper Jess Duffin in the squad, Renegades can finally manage to end the trophy drought. The squad also boasts of Amy Satterthwaite, Lea Tahuhu, Lizelee Lee, and Georgia Wareham. With Webb, Nicola Hancock, and Alana King in the mix, the squad has a good mixture of experience and youth. With Molineux taking over from Satterthwaite, there surely is a newfound vigor and hope in the franchise, as this could be their year.
