The Jamaica Tallawahs made it even-steven against the Barbados Tridents when the two forces locked horns for the second time in the 5th edition of the Caribbean Premier League. The Kumar Sangakkara led Jamaica side defeated the Tridents by 12 runs as they successfully took their sweet revenge. In an amazing co-incidence, in their previous encounter two days ago it was the Barbados Tridents who reigned supreme by 12 runs.

Batting first at the  Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida, Sangakkara and his men managed to put up a defendable total of 154 runs on the board at the loss of 5 wickets. Andre McCarthy played a brilliant inning of 60 runs from 44 balls which involved 3 maximums. West Indian international Lendl Simmons chipped in with 30 runs which acted as a support for the in form McCarthy. The skipper faltered with the bat again as he could manage only 12 runs after scoring a golden duck in their previous encounter.

Shakib’s useful contribution:

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan played a swashbuckling cameo down the order to take the team’s total to a respectable position. The left handed batsman remained not out at 40 runs from 32 deliveries hitting 5 fours and a solitary six. Pakistani speedster Wahab Riaz was the pick of the Barbados Bowlers with 3 wickets to his name.

The run chase:

Coming on to chase the target, the Barbados batting was significantly poor. The whole top order was dismissed cheaply but it was captain Keiron Pollard who decided to take up the responsibility. Leading by example, Pollard scored a rampant 63 runs of just 33 balls, which is not unusual from an established T20 player like him. His brilliant innings consisted of 6 towering sixes and 2 boundaries. Unfortunately, the big West Indian’s effort went in vain as the team got bundled out for 142, 12 runs short of the target. Pakistan speedster Mohammad Sami picked up 4 wickets for the Jamica Tallawahs and was the highlight among the bowlers.
