CPL 2018: David Warner agitated as umpire makes a blunder
He scored 11 off 21 balls.
The sixth edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is currently in progress and the competition witnessed one of the worst decisions from the umpires ever. St Lucia Stars and Guyana Amazon Warriors locked horns on Saturday as the hosts managed to keep their nerve in a thriller to win the game by 3 runs. But more than the result of the game, the umpire’s decision to adjudge David Warner leg before was discussed.
Stars were chasing the target of 142 runs on a slow pitch and the openers Warner and Andre Fletcher also struggled up front to get going in the powerplay. But the time arrived when one of them had to take their chance and play their shots. Imran Tahir was brought into the attack in the seventh over of the innings and he immediately struck by nipping out the Australian left-hander who was shocked after being given out leg-before.
The incident happened off the second delivery of the over when David Warner felt the pressure and tried to reverse sweep the leg-spinner. However, he swung his bat a little too early and the ball directly hit him on the hand.
But to his dismay, the bowler appealed and the umpire was quick to raise his finger which left the batsman in utter disgrace. He deservedly questioned the decision straightaway but had no option to go back to the dugout. Warner was struggling in the middle completely and scored only 11 runs off 21 balls before being dismissed.
Stars fall agonisingly short
Despite the slow start, the Stars were on course to win the game thanks to the partnership between Lendl Simmons and Kieron Pollard. They added 83 runs for the third wicket in less than 10 overs. But Rayad Emrit dismissed both of them and brought some of the best death bowling to the fore. He returned with the amazing figures of 3/26 in his four overs as Guyana restricted Stars to 138 runs.
