David Warner is currently serving the 12-month suspension period for his role in the infamous ball-tampering scandal during the South Africa tour in March. He went through one of the toughest periods of his life and career after that and is slowly coming back to the game. The left-handed batsman will be featuring for St. Lucia Stars in the upcoming season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

He is also set to play for the Winnipeg Hawks in the inaugural edition of the Global T20 Canada and will play under the leadership of Dwayne Bravo in the tournament. He recently played a stroke-filled 130-run knock in the T20 practice game against Australia National High-Performance Squad and proved that he is still a force to reckon with when it comes to playing in the shortest format of the game.

Who will Warner replace?

The media release of CPL confirmed the news of David Warner replacing D’Arcy Short in the line-up as the latter has been picked in the Australia ‘A’ squad for the tour of India. The tour will commence during the T20 league itself which has ruled out the young left-hander. Though St. Lucia Stars have got a more than able replacement for him in Warner.

Mohammad Khan, the General Manager of Stars welcomed Warner to the set-up and termed him as one of the greatest batsmen in the world. “We are excited to bring David to the Saint Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsmen of the modern era and a winning player. He is going to add a lot of value on the field and in the dressing room as we pursue our first Hero CPL Title,” he said.

St. Lucia Stars squad: Darren Sammy, Lendl Simmons, David Warner, Kieron Pollard, Rumman Raees, Andre Fletcher, Mitchell McClenaghan, Kesrick Williams, Niroshan Dickwella, Rahkeem Cornwall, Qais Ahmad, Kaven Hodge, Chanderpaul Hemraj, Dasun Shanaka, Christopher Lamont, Obed McCoy, Jaskaran Malhotra, Odean Smith
