Jamaica Tallawahs, after three consecutive victories in this year’s Caribbean Premier League (CPL), lost back-to-back matches in Florida. Andre Russell’s men were in a strong position against Trinbago Knight Riders, but Dwayne Bravo’s belligerence with the willow at the death robbed them of their fourth victory. Their next match is against Jason Holder-captained Barbados Tridents at the very venue.
It’s also their last home match and would want to win and keep themselves in contention for the playoffs. The Tridents got off to an impressive start against Guyana Amazon Warriors, however, couldn’t replicate their form against cellar-dweller St Lucia Stars. There is cut-throat competition for the top four spots and both teams won’t want many hiccups as the event enters its business end.
Pitch
The track at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill, has produced high scores in the last two matches. Run-scoring hasn’t been difficult for the batters. Nevertheless, the deck has been helpful for the tweakers as shown by the likes of Imad Wasim, Imran Tahir, and Chris Green. A low scoring affair isn’t expected in the upcoming encounter.
Team Combination
Jamaica Tallawahs
The Tallawahs may bring in Samuel Badree in place of Steven Taylor, who couldn’t perform with both bat and ball against the Knight Riders. The rest of the lineup remains to be the same. Glenn Phillips, their leading run scorer thus far, is the opener along with Lewis. The team is a batting powerhouse with the likes of Powell, Russell in the lineup. The bowlers have been reasonable.
Predicted XI
Kennar Lewis, Glenn Phillips (wk), Ross Taylor, David Miller, Andre Russell (C), Rovman Powell, Imad Wasim, Krishmar Santokie, Adam Zampa, Samuel Badree, Oshane Thomas
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents, despite their defeat against the Stars, is expected to remain unchanged. The batting is experienced with names like Dwayne Smith, Martin Guptill, Hashim Amla and Steve Smith in their ranks. Nicholas Pooran’s power-hitting abilities can’t be undermined either. The bowling lineup has Holder, Irfan, Riaz who are tried and tested customers in the T20 format.
