CPL 2018: Shahid Afridi rules himself out of the tournament
The 38-year-old updated about the same on his Twitter handle.
Shahid Afridi, the former Pakistani all-rounder, is in the middle of a knee injury and the same has turned out to be a major detriment in his cricketing career. He missed a few matches for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League after which he seemed uncertain to play his last international match, representing the ICC World XI in their match against Windies at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Nevertheless, he went on to play the match. Earlier this year, the Khyber Agency-born cricketer was drafted in to play for the Jamaica Tallawahs in this year’s Carribean Premier League, which gets underway today (Local Time). To add to his agony, he recently has ruled himself out of the event owing to the persistent injury. The 38-year-old updated about the same on his Twitter handle.
He took to the social media platform and wrote, “Due to my knee rehab I’ll have to sadly miss out this year’s #BiggestPartyInSport with the @JAMTallawahs I’ll be cheering for the team from home and I’m sure @simadwasim will fill up for me #CPL18 #DreamBIGwidTallawahs”

An exciting event ahead
Trinbago Knight Riders will lock horns with St Lucia Stars at Queens Sports Club in Trinidad in the first match of the event. The Knights are the defending champions and they would be up against a team who had a forgettable outing last time around. In 2017, The Tallawahs finished third on the points table with six wins from ten matches and subsequently qualified for the playoffs.
However, they lost against the Guyana Amazon Warriors by five wickets in the Eliminator to bow out of the event. This time around, they have the likes of Imad Wasim, David Miller, Ross Taylor, Samuel Badree and others who have been tried and tested customers in the T20 format. Meanwhile, Afridi playing in the league would definitely have been a valuable addition for them.
