CPL 2019, Match 17, St Lucia Zouks vs Barbados Tridents, Match Prediction – Weather Report, Pitch Conditions, Playing XIs and Live Streaming Details
Colin Ingram has replaced Thisara Perera in the Zouks' squad.
Barbados Tridents are placed fifth in the table with only a couple of points in this edition’s CPL. However, the fact that they have played the least number of matches among all the teams, gives them some sort of an advantage as far as making the next round is concerned. Jason Holder and Co are next scheduled to lock horns with Daren Sammy’s St Lucia Zouks at Gros Islet, St Lucia.
Last year, the Tridents lost both their matches versus the Zouks. Overall, Barbados have a 8-4 lead over the St Lucia franchise and even at Gros Islet, the Tridents have won three out of their five matches. As far as the Zouks are concerned, apart from their victory over cellar dwellers Jamaica Tallawahs, they have slumped to defeats in their three matches and are fourth in the table.
Pitch and Conditions
In the 2018 CPL, the pitch at the venue was a bit inconsistent. Even as scores of above 200 were pretty much a regularity, there was an occasion when a team was bowled out for 69 in 12.3 overs. But bearing in mind that the stadium will host its first game this season, a high-scoring affair won’t spring a surprise. There’s no forecast of rain with dew set to play its part in the contest.
Team Combinations
St Lucia Zouks
Colin Ingram has replaced Thisara Perera in the squad. The latter has been recalled for a Sri Lanka training camp. Last year, Ingram played for defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders. As far as Zouks’ batting is concerned, it has been powered by the hulk-like Rahkeem Cornwall, who has managed to take advantage of the powerplay. Andre Fletcher has done reasonably well as well.
The middle-order is yet to get settled where De Grandhomme and Ingram’s role will be crucial. The bowling unit has tended to misfire a wee bit, though it has given sparks of brilliance. Viljoen conceded 20 runs in the only over he bowled in the last match and is yet to pick up a wicket. Fawad hasn’t gone for runs, but hasn’t gotten much wickets. McCoy and Williams’ role will be crucial.
Probable XI
Andre Fletcher, Rahkeem Cornwall, Roland Cato, Kavem Hodge, Colin de Grandhomme, Colin Ingram, Daren Sammy (C), Hardus Viljoen, Kesrick Williams, Obed McCoy, Fawad Ahmed
Barbados Tridents
Prior to the league, a lot was expected of Alex Hales. However, the England batter hasn’t gotten the big scores thus far despite getting off to starts. But keeping in mind his sheer quality, it seems a matter of time before he comes into his own. Johnson Charles also needs to find some consistency at the top. Leniko Boucher and the experienced JP Duminy need to be on top of their game as well.
The batting has depth as the likes of Ashley Nurse has shown that he can smash the leather a fair distance at the death. In the bowling department, Hayden Walsh and Sandeep Lamichhane are the genuine wicket-taking options, being leg-spinners, who are in form. The onus will also be on skipper Jason Holder to lead from the front. Lalor and Roshon Primus are the other bowlers in the lineup.
Probable XI
Johnson Charles, Alex Hales, Leniko Boucher (wk), JP Duminy, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder, Ashley Nurse, Roshon Primus, Hayden Walsh, Josh Lalor, Sandeep Lamichhane
