The Trinbago Knight Riders are only on win away from qualifying for the playoffs. In fact, one more victory will almost confirm them a berth in the top two along with the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Kieron Pollard and Co are next scheduled to lock horns with the Barbados Tridents at the Kensington Oval. On the other hand, the Tridents are placed fifth and a win will take them to fourth in the table.
Jason Holder’s men will desperately want to make amends after not being able to chase down 128 versus the Tallawahs. If the Tridents come out trumps, then they’ll be firm favourites for a playoff berth with three matches remaining. It will make things tough for the Tallawahs and the St Lucia Zouks. On head to head, the Knights have won seven out of their last eight games over the Tridents.
Pitch and Conditions
The pitch in Barbados hasn’t been a high-scoring one. It helped the slower bowlers in the previous games and batting second has turned out to be a tumultuous task. Both the matches this season have been won by the team, batting first. Though there are forecasts of rain, it may not make much of an impact. The temperature will be around 28 degrees Celsius with the humidity in the 70s.
Team Combinations
Barbados Tridents
The Tridents won’t be having the services of Sandeep Lamichhane, who has left for national duties. As a leg-spinning option, Hayden Walsh, who got four wickets in two matches, is likely to get a chance. Harry Gurney, who replaced Dan Christian in the squad, did well in his first game. In Lamichhane’s absence, a lot will depend of skipper Holder, who is their leading wicket-taker.
But he needs support from the likes of Roshon Primus and Raymon Reifer. In the batting area, Johnson Charles and JP Duminy need to step up. Alex Hales hasn’t gotten runs consistently. Justin Greaves turned up with a fifty in his first encounter, but then succumbed to a couple of failures. Ashley Nurse has had a forgettable campaign with the ball, however, has been amongst the runs.
Probable XI
Johnson Charles (wk), Alex Hales, Justin Greaves, JP Duminy, Jonathan Carter, Jason Holder (C), Ashley Nurse, Roshon Primus, Raymon Reifer, Hayden Walsh, Harry Gurney
Trinbago Knight Riders
For the Knights, Chris Jordan has come in place of Mohammad Hasnain, whose NOC was cancelled by the PCB. Bearing in mind the nature of the strip, the axe may come down on Anderson Phillip with Akeal Hosein retaining his spot. There’s no update on Sunil Narine, who has missed a couple of games due to injury. If he comes in then Seekkuge Prasanna, who has two wickets, may be dropped.
Pollard’s cutters are expected to come in handy. Khary Pierre’s role will be critical. In the batting department, the onus will be on Lendl Simmons, who has an average of 52.20 at a strike-rate of 182.51. Colin Munro has found his rhythm right away as well with the unbeaten 96 versus the Tallawahs. The likes of Denesh Ramdin, James Neesham and Pollard himself aren’t in poor form either.
Probable XI
Lendl Simmons, Colin Munro, Kieron Pollard (C), Darren Bravo, James Neesham, Denesh Ramdin (wk), Seekkuge Prasanna/Sunil Narine, Khary Pierre, Anderson Phillip/Akeal Hosein, Ali Khan, Chris Jordan
