‘Age is just a number’- the phrase seems to be Pravin Tambe’s favourite these days. Being the oldest player in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League, the man is proving his worth time and again. It was only back in August that the 48-year-old added another feather to his cap by becoming the only Indian player to have featured in CPL. He was roped in by Trinbago Knight Riders in their playing XI against St Lucia Zouks.
On September 6, he featured for the third time in the CPL against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and stunned opponents with his heroics. He got hold of a splendid catch followed by taking a wicket. During the seventh over when Patriots were flaunting their batting, Tambe ran a fair distance to take a brilliant catch and showed Ben Dunk the way to the pavilion. He ran to his right from short third man before making a full-length dive to grab both ball and the attention.
The ball was all set to fall in no man’s land, but Tambe definitely had other plans to tackle the same. The Indian shone again in the next over as he dismissed Joshua Da Silva. The official Twitter account of CPL posted his heroics and wrote- “PRAVIN TAMBE!! Aged like fine wine! A brilliant catch and a Wicket! #CPL20 #CricketPlayedLouder #SKPvTKR.”

To talk about the match, the Knight Riders smashed the Patriots by nine wickets to carry forward their winning streak in the tournament. The Patriots were bundled at meagre 77 courtesy the heroics of Fawad Ahmed, who scalped four wickets. In return, TKR chased the total onboard only in 11.3 overs to win their 10th match in a row. Being unbeaten throughout the tournament, the TKR became the first lot in the CPL to jump into the playoffs.
In the playoffs, the Kieron Pollard-led side will now take on Jamaica Tallawahs in the first semifinal of the Caribbean Premier League 2020. A few days back, Tambe did another age-defying stunt when he took a brilliant catch of Evin Lewis of Khary Pierre’s delivery in a match against the same opponents.
