Though the Tridents registered victory against Tallawahs by 7 wickets, their stint in the CPL ended yesterday as the team finished second-last on the points table with 6 points after winning 3 matches out of 10 played.
While, on the other hand, Jamaica has made it to the playoffs with seven points in the table and will feature in its last league match of the 2020 edition on September 6 against St Lucia Zouks. The game between Tridents and Tallawahs commenced with Rovman Powell winning the toss and electing to bat first.
Batting first, Jamaica racked up a target of 162 on the board at the loss of four wickets as Jermaine Blackwood and Andre Russell went on to play blistering knocks of 74 off 59 and 54 off 28 respectively. Carlos Brathwaite tries to find the ball in the stands
While chasing the target of 162, Barbados Tridents had a rocky start as their opening batsman Johnson Charles got out on a duck at the very first ball of the innings and the right-handed batsman Shamarh Brooks also went back to the pavilion in the second over.
However, the captain Jason Holder and left-handed batsman Jonathan Carter emerged as match-winners for the two-time champions as they knitted a brilliant partnership while smashing 69 and 42 runs respectively. Mitchell Santner also played a notable cameo as he added 35 runs off 21 balls on the scoreboard.
In this 28th match of CPL 2020, a funny incident involving Jamaica’s Carlos Brathwaite caught the attention of the viewers. At the beginning of the 15th over, Santner unleashed a mighty swing over long-on on the ball by Sandeep Lamichhane. The ball was lost somewhere in the stands and Braithwaite went to search for it.
Interestingly, in the stands, the cut-outs of the audience cheering for the teams were placed to give some feel to the players. The visuals of the all-rounder searching for the ball amidst the cut-outs was hilarious.
