The 20th match of the CPL 2020 is scheduled between Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on 30th August. This will be the last game at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain as the tournament will move to Tarouba for the remaining part.

The Patriots are exploring the abyss with five losses on the trot. They have erred on far too many fronts to expect themselves placed anywhere else than where they are. Even in the last game against the Jamaica Tallawahs, the Patriots had no answers to Glenn Phillips who toyed with their bowlers in his innings of 79 off 61.

None of the batsmen took charge while chasing as the opponent bowlers ran through their entire order and reduced them to 110 all-out before winning the match by 37 runs. Rayad Emrit must be thoroughly disappointed as his team repeated its mistakes the umpteenth time and his own efforts with the ball proved too insignificant to change the course of the game.

The Guyana Amazon Warriors cannot be too proud of their run either as they are only a step ahead than their reeling adversaries in this game. With two wins in their six games, they are located 5th in the table, however, a positive for them is their net run rate is less dented.

In their last game, they looked pale against the robust enforcement of Trinbago Knight Riders. The Warriors finished with a 112 on board in what turned to be an obviously easy chase. However, given their form Tridents’ form against even ordinary teams, losing to the Knight Riders is surely not a crime.

Today’s clash is more important for the Warriors as a loss at this stage might push them towards the exit door.

Pitch and conditions

“The track is going to assist the spinners” should be printed on pamphlets and be distributed after what we have seen this entire tournament. The new ball might do a thing or two for the quicks, but the remaining show belongs to the spinners. This being the second game of the day, expect the track to be slower. There are thunderstorms expected, however, full 40 overs are on the cards.

Playing Combinations

Guyana Amazon Warriors

Hopefully, Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj will come out to do something better with the bat in this game. Shimron Hetmyer’s form has taken an unexpected dip and he would be wondering more than anybody else about what is going wrong with him.

The hard-hitter Nicholas Pooran, who was promoted up the order in the expectation that he would get more time, although chose to waive the opportunity. Ross Taylor has often found himself in the middle of nowhere, however, in the last game he looked decent for whatever time he lasted.

Sherfane Rutherford has been lucky to get so many chances, though he has not been able to capitalize even once. Keemo Paul has been quite consistent with the ball though he went wicket-less in the last game after scoring an important 28 runs with the bat.

Skipper Chris Green has confused about his all-rounder tag as he is yet to do anything with the bat. Imran Tahir was the only bowler who troubled and made the batsman work hard for their runs. Naveen-ul-Haq has been in good form and will look to continue.

Predicted XI- Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Ross Taylor, Sherfane Rutherford, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir, Ashmead Nedd.

BenchOdean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Romario Shepherd, Kevin Sinclair, Jessy Singh, Kissoodath Magram.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

Evin Lewis had an added strain in his groin after an already existent strain of not getting the runs at the top. Although the former strain is not too serious and he is expected to play aside Chris Lynn. Denesh Ramdin has shone at times but has lacked the constancy expected from a number three.

Ben Dunk has got some good knocks under his belt, however, he is much better than what he has shown so far in the tournament. Kieran Powell should follow him in the middle-order. Amongst a host of problems, skipper Emrit has been performing duties with the ball quite well and got 3 wickets in the last game as well.

Leg-spinner Imran Khan had has given back-to-back performances and he gave away only 7 runs in 4 overs and bagged a wicket. Sheldon Cottrell, however, leaked runs with both hands and looked completely lost. Jon-Russ Jaggesar’s story was worse as he went wicket-less.

Predicted XI- Chris Lynn, Evin Lewis, Denesh Ramdin (WK), Nicholas Kelly, Ben Dunk, Kieran Powell, Rayad Emrit (C), Jon-Russ Jaggesar, Ish Sodhi, Sheldon Cottrell, Imran Khan.

BenchJoshua Da Silva, Jahman Hamiton, Sohail Tanvir, Alzarri Joseph, Colin Archibald, Dominic Drakes.
