CPL 2020: Match 26, Guyana Amazon Warriors vs Barbados Tridents- Preview, Live Streaming, Timings, Predicted XI, Stats, Pitch Report & more
The Warriors, with their qualification ticket secured in their hands, would want to continue to maintain their winning run.
The Guyana Amazon Warriors will take on the Barbados Tridents in the 26th match of the CPL 2020, at the Brian Lara Cricket Stadium in Trinidad. The Guyana Amazon Warriors, after their convincing victory over St Lucia Zouks in the last game, have qualified for the next stage of the tournament.
The Chris Green-led men restricted the Zouks for merely 109 at the loss of 7 wickets courtesy Naveen-ul-Haq and Keemo Paul, who both bagged a couple each with the ball. Chasing an ordinary total, Shimron Hetmyer got back to his ways after a few cold outings as he smacked 56 off just 36 deliveries and led his team to triumph in only 13.5 overs.
On the other hand, Barbados Trident- who stand at the second-last spot in the points tally with only two victories to show- have had a forgettable season this time. In their last league face-off, Jason Holder’s men faced the same team they are up against today i.e. the Warriors, who ended up winning by 8 wickets after dismissing Tridents for a new low of just 92 runs. The team was once tottering at 27 for 8 and taking their tally to even 50 looked improbable. However, Rashid Khan’s 36-run cameo and Mitchell Santer’s 19 off 15 mitigated their embarrassment and they posted 92 in their 20 overs.
The Tridents could have fancied their chances after what happened in their previous game when they faced the St Lucia Zouks, who tumbled for exactly 92 and yet ended up defending it successfully. However, their unit was unable to put up a show good enough to defend such a trivial total.
The Warriors, with their qualification ticket secured in their hands, would want to continue to maintain their winning run, whereas the Tridents would be desperate to turn things around and rely on the pinch of hope left for them in the tournament.
Pitch and conditions
The new ball will have something on offer for the pacers, however, it is the spinners who will take the larger share of the pie. We have seen some incredibly low-scoring games during the night in Trinidad in the last two days and, therefore, the batsmen will have to extremely cautious and vigilant.
Playing combinations
Barbados Tridents
The openers- Johnson Charles and Shai Hope- scored ducks in the last game and have anyway not been able to provide any solid starts to their team this season. Kyle Mayers has had some decent outings but the lack of support around him has only made things difficult. He will be assisted by Jonathan Carter, Justin Greaves, and Ashley Nurse lower down.
Jason Holder played some brilliant cameos at the start of the season, however, his form with the bat has dipped. He was seen coming up the order in the last few games which was a strategy adopted to give himself more time in the middle, although it has not worked. Mitchell Santner and Rashid Khan, who are expected to be their saviors with the ball, proved to be that with the bat as well in the last game, and therefore they might be tried up the order in the remaining matches.
Predicted XI- Johnson Charles, Shai Hope (WK), Kyle Mayers, Jason Holder (C), Jonathan Carter, Justin Greaves, Ashley Nurse, Raymon Reifer, Mitchell Santner, Rashid Khan, Hayden Walsh Jr
Bench- Corey Anderson, Nyeem Young, Joshua Bishop, Shamarh Brooks, Keon Harding, Shayan Jahangir
Guyana Amazon Warriors
Brandon King and Chandrapaul Hemraj getting some runs under their belt, after multiple failures, is a good sign for the Warriors. Shimron Hetmyer- who seemed a little lost in the last couple of matches- played a brilliant and match-winning knock of 56 runs off 36 balls and will continue at No.3.
With their regular openers getting some rhythm, Kevin Sinclair- who opened alongside King for a couple of matches- might be sent in a little lower in the order, whereas Nicholas Pooran- who has got back his form after his century- would look to continue alongside Ross Taylor in the middle-order.
Both Imran Tahir and Skipper Chris Green have been in performing well with the ball and would want to continue getting the wickets. Naveen-ul-Haq has been in marvelous form and has been in the wickets since the beginning.
Predicted XI- Brandon King, Chandrapaul Hemraj, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Ross Taylor, Kevin Sinclair, Keemo Paul, Chris Green (C), Romario Shepherd, Naveen-ul-Haq, Imran Tahir
Bench- Kissoondath Magram, Odean Smith, Anthony Bramble, Ashmead Nedd, Sherfane Rutherford, Jasdeep Singh
