CPL 2021: Carlos Brathwaite forced into isolation after Covid-19 case on his flight from UK to St Kitts and Nevis

West Indies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite has been forced to isolate due to a COVID-19 case on his flight from the United Kingdom to St Kitts and Nevis. Brathwaite was part of The Hundred 2021, which recently concluded on August 21. He was the captain of the Manchester Originals and he travelled from Manchester city to Basseterre ahead of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) which is set to begin on August 26.

During his flight to St Kitts and Nevis, one of the passengers had tested positive for COVID-19 and hence Brathwaite was told to isolate until further notice. The all-rounder plays for Jamaica Tallawahs’ in the CPL, and they are due to play their first game on August 27.

Brathwaite’s tests reports have come negative but, he has been told to quarantine. The West Indian all-rounder further opined that he is still unsure whether he can feature in the first match of CPL against Saint Lucia Kings.

“My tests have been negative as far as I know,” Brathwaite said. “We’ve been asked to be in quarantine. I still don’t know the full extent of it. I’ve just been told I need to continue to quarantine as opposed to being allowed to walk around the hotel as was initially allowed. So I’m just as much in the dark as you are, unfortunately,” Brathwaite said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.

I don’t think it will be an undefeated run for Trinbago Knight Riders this year: Carlos Braithwaite

The hard-hitting Caribbean all-rounder feels it will be difficult for defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to keep their undefeated run going from last year. Braithwaite feels the tournament will be very interesting this time around.

“The tournament is going to be interesting,” Brathwaite added. “I don’t think it will be an undefeated run to the finals as Trinidad had last year. I think it will be a little closer. I think all the teams are more evenly matched.”

Caribbean Premier League 2021 starts from August 28 with the encounter between defending champions Trinbago Knight Riders and Guyana Amazon Warriors at Warner Park, Basseterre, St Kitts.
