CPL 2021: Retention and trades of all the six participating teams
The players' draft is set to take place on May 26.
The preparations surrounding the 2021 edition of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) have already gotten underway. The tournament is set to get underway on August 28 with the final to be played on September 19. All the matches will take place at Warner Park in St Kitts. The six participating teams have already named their retentions and trades ahead of the draft on May 26.
Last April, Andre Russell called the Jamaica Tallawahs the “weirdest” franchise, but he has been retained by the same team. Veteran all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who led the Trinbago Knight Riders to glory in the 2017 and 2018 CPL, will now be turning out for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The Patriots, on the other hand, have traded out Denesh Ramdin to the Knights.
Chris Gayle has opted out of yet another edition of the CPL. Daren Sammy, who played for the St Lucia Zouks, won’t be a player anymore. The 2016 T20 World Cup-winning skipper would now be T20 Cricket Consultant and Brand Ambassador with the Zouks.
The Knight Riders after a loss-less campaign last time have retained as many as 12 players. Kieron Pollard has been retained as their skipper as well. The Warriors have retained 11 cricketers, on the contrary. The Tallawahs have retained the least number of players.
