The annual franchise T20 cricket tournament of the West Indies, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is all set to kick off its 12th edition on August 30. Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will challenge defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors on the opening day of the competition while the final will take place on October 7 at the Providence Stadium.
The tournament will commence at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua and will move to Basseterre at St Kitts. After that, it will be played in Darren Sammy Stadium in St Islet, Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Queens Park Oval in Port of Spain and finally in Providence Stadium in Guyana, where the final will be played.
So far, Trinbago Knight Riders have been the most successful franchise in the competition, with four titles to their name. Jamaica Tallawahs have the chance to equal the record this time around, as they have three titles to their name. On the other hand, Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis and Barbados have one championship to their name.
Over the years, CPL has helped multiple cricketers find a platform and excel. The likes of Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Rovman Powell and Akeal Hosein have benefited massively and it has the potential to give birth to more future icons as far as T20 cricket is concerned.
