Credit goes to captain and management for backing me in difficult times: Kedar Jadhav
Jadhav was the Man of the Match in the 1st ODI against Australia in Hyderabad.
Kedar Jadhav, in a very short span of time, has evolved into one of the most important members of the Indian team. Having made his ODI debut in 2014, he has been around for a while. However, there has always been severe competition for places in the side. Thus, he had his opportunities limited initially.
However, just as he was sealing his spot in the side, later on, injuries put a halt to his career. But, he kept faith in himself, took the hard strides and worked extremely hard on his fitness. Jadhav has played some career-defining knocks in the last few months and his innings in the first ODI against Australia in Hyderabad stands right at the top. The batting all-rounder credited the captain and the management for backing him in the difficult times.
Management is clear that I’m required at number six
After his match-winning unbeaten 81, Jadhav said that it feels good to be playing some consistent cricket. He mentioned that everybody in the team has been quite encouraging irrespective of the injuries.
“It’s good to be consistently playing for India and doing well,” Jadhav said after the match. “Everybody is encouraging towards me, irrespective of how many times I have got injured. Every time I have got fit, I have walked into the team. Credit goes to the captain and management for backing me in my difficult times and this is my time [to] pay back the confidence and faith they have shown in my difficult times,” he further added.
The Maharashtra cricketer informed that the management is looking at him as a finisher. He said that the same has been communicated to him. Furthermore, he added that everyone is clear about their roles.
“It’s more than one-and-a-half or two years [since I’ve been batting at No. 6]. Till 2017 January against England in India, I batted at No. 6,” he said. “From there, the management was looking at me as a finisher. They have clearly told me that, ‘you will be batting at No. 6 till the time you are there’. The management has been clear about everybody’s role, and everybody is clear about what is expected of individual players.”
