Cricket 19 censors Niroshan Dickwella’s name from its gaming platform

Niroshan Dickwella has been one of the brightest prospects in Sri Lanka cricket over the last six years or so. The left-hander made his debut against South Africa in a Test match at the Singhalese Sports Club in Colombo in 2014. In the same year, he made his ODI debut against India in Ranchi and a couple of years later, he forayed in T20I cricket during a bilateral series versus the Men in Blue.

Though he has been a tad inconsistent, he hasn’t gone out of the radar by any stretch of the imagination. In 37 Tests, 52 ODIs and 23 T20Is, the Kandy-born has 1921, 1571 and 429 runs respectively. The fact that he has two centuries and 25 half-centuries, donning the national colours, shows the danger he poses to the opposition and the tremendous promise he carries.

The 27-year-old is currently plying his trade in the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League. Representing the Dambulla Viiking, led by Dasun Shanaka, the youngster has opened the batting and has given his team brisk starts on plenty of instances.

In six matches, he has scored 138 runs at an average and strike-rate of 27.60 and 146.80 respectively. His top score of 60 came against Bhanuka Rajapaksha’s Galle Gladiators on Saturday, December 5 at the Mahinda Rajapaksha Stadium in Hambantota.  The Viiking are placed second in the table and have already qualified for the semi-final.

In the meantime, Cricket 19, a popular video gaming platform, has censored Dickwella’s name from their platform for obvious reasons. His name appears as ‘N D-Censored’. The development was put forth by renowned writer Jarrod Kimber on his official Twitter handle.

Kimber is one of the most renowned writers in the cricketing fraternity. He was the founder of the SPIN Magazine and he also has shown his class while writing for ESPNcricinfo. The 40-year-old from Melbourne has written as many as five books on cricket and he’s a film-maker as well.

One of his renowned articles remains to be ‘The Shahid Afridi of Kansas’ that released on the Cricket Monthly magazine back on September 2017. His analytics about the sport has, time and again, also garnered appreciation from every nook and corner of the cricket world.
