3 Amazing Facts about Mayank Dagar - The man who beat Virat Kohli's record

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) player Mayank Dagar has been grabbing all the headlines. The 27-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers with the bat and ball in the Ranji Trophy format. After years of grind in the domestic format, the youngster is finally getting his due with a regular run in the IPL.

Mayank Dagar made his Indian Premier League debut for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2023 against CSK at Chepauk. Ahead of the IPL 2024 Auctions, RCB and SRH decided to conduct a player swap including Mayank Dagar and Shahbaz Ahmed.

Thus far, the youngster has played four IPL games with just a solitary wicket and is yet to show his skills with the bat. His overall T20 record has seen him play 55 games and pick 55 wickets with an economy rate of 6.5 runs per over. Apart from his amazing bowling, Mayank Dagar is also an excellent fielder in the covers as well as in the boundary.

India’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2016 had reached the finals before losing to West Indies. His economy rate of 2.88 was amongst the best in the championship as he also picked a best of 3/21.

Mayank Dagar is the nephew of the former Indian dashing opener Virender Sehwag. The Nawab of Najafgarh happens to be the cousin brother of Mayank Dagar’s mother. In fact, in many of his media interactions, the RCB star has credited Virender Sehwag and spoken about his influence on his cricketing journey. One of the biggest advices given by Sehwag to the young star is to be himself on the field and stick to his natural instincts.
