3 changes Punjab Kings should make to get back to winning ways

Punjab Kings faced the Sunrisers Hyderabad in a thrilling contest at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh. Punjab Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first and had a stellar performance with the ball as they were able to restrict the opposition to 182/9 in their 20 overs. 

Sunrisers Hyderabad also were lethal with the ball as they were able to scalp three quick wickets at the start of the second innings. However, the middle order batters of Punjab Kings kept them in the chase and it looked like another Shashank Singh special would take them through. In the end, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the game by two runs and let’s look at the three changes that Punjab Kings can make ahead of their next game.

3. Bring in Rahul Chahar for Harpreet Brar

The spin combination for the Punjab Kings has been debatable over the past few games. Harpreet Brar has been the go-to spin option for the side and it has been a decent choice for them up till now. But they need a wicket-taking spinner amongst the ranks which can help them take wickets during the crucial middle-over phase.

The Punjab Kings management can look to bring in Rahul Chahar in the upcoming game as they are struggling to dominate with their current spin options. Everyone has seen the leg-spinner’s prowess in the Indian Premier League over the years and can still back him for a few upcoming games in the tournament.

2. Slot in Atharwa Taide in place of Prabhsimran singh

Prabhsimran Singh was set to be the next big thing that was coming out of the Punjab Kings franchise after his epic campaign last year. Despite some positive starts this year as well, he has not been able to contribute much with the bat for the side. He has only scored 109 runs across five innings in this tournament.

This might prompt the Punjab Kings management to take a look at another batter who is waiting in the wings. Atharwa Taide was another prospect that made strides in the last campaign in the Indian Premier League. The management might look at Taide as he has been in great form as he has been scoring runs in the domestic circuit as well and it can turn out to be a positive change for the side.

1. Improving strike rate of Shikhar Dhawan

The opening batters are known to set the tempo for the side but that has not been the case for Punjab Kings. The man at fault is their captain himself, Shikhar Dhawan as he has not been able to bat freely. The left-handed batter has not been able to give a positive start to the side till now in this edition of the Indian Premier League.

The opener might have to look at his current form and take the aggressive route as the next option for him. It can be an approach that he can use for the upcoming games and it can be beneficial for the side as well. If he can continue this approach, it would enable the side to post big totals and also give momentum to the squad while chasing any total.
