4. Shikhar Dhawan dropped from ODIs
Shikhar Dhawan being ignored for the ODI squad came as a huge shock for fans. In the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, Dhawan had been leading the Indian side. When the senior Indian squad was rested ahead of Asia Cup, Dhawan led the team to a series victory against West Indies.
Though his performances haven’t been up to the mark of late, he was backed by the side. The opening batter had been working on making the cut for the 2023 World Cup, but his exclusion from the Sri Lanka ODIs was an unexpected move.
In 22 matches played this year, Dhawan managed to score 688 runs at an average of 34.40. He led India against West Indies, South Africa, and New Zealand this year of which India won the series against the Caribbean side and the Proteas. After a string of poor performances, Dhawan was eventually dropped from the ODI squad.
