IPL 2023: 5 Domestic players who might trigger bidding war at auction

The IPL mini-auction for the 2023 season is just few weeks away and the franchises have had a closer look into the domestic tournaments including the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Ahead of the auction, as many as 90 players were released across ten teams and that has created some crucial voids. Hence, all the franchises will be eyeing numerous Indian players currently sharpening their skill sets in the domestic circuit. Many domestic players have gone on to become successful in international cricket in the past and IPL could be a great platform for the budding talent. With all, that said, let us look at five domestic players who might start a bidding war at the upcoming IPL mini-auction in Kochi. 5. KS Bharat KS Bharat is among the popular names in domestic cricket and has been travelling with the Indian Test squad for a while as a backup option behind the stumps. The wicketkeeper-batter, however, hasn’t made his international debut yet. The 29-year-old has immense experience in domestic cricket having played for the Andhra Pradesh side. Bharat did play a few IPL games for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2021 season and was impressive at the top. He was picked up by the Delhi Capitals for INR 2 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction but failed to get a game during the entire season. He was recently released by the franchise which did come as a surprise. Bharat so far has played ten IPL games scoring 199 runs at an average of 28.4 and a decent strike rate of 122.09. With franchises like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders looking for an Indian wicketkeeping option, Bharat might well and truly be on their radar. 4. Shivam Mavi Shivam Mavi was bought for a whopping INR 7.25 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction by Kolkata Knight Riders after a lot of franchises showed interest in the youngster. The former Indian U-19 cricketer has the ability to swing the ball up front at a good pace and can be lethal on his day. However, Mavi endured a disappointing season in IPL 2022 when he went for more than ten runs an over in the six games he played and picked up just five wickets. KKR expectedly, released him ahead of the mini-auction, however, the Uttar Pradesh lad is expected to create a bidding war among the franchises. The Indian fast bowlers have always had a big demand at the auctions and Mavi is expected to go for a big price yet again with not many renowned pacers around. 3. Samarth Vyas Samarth Vyas recently made the headlines for becoming the fifth batter to reach a double century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and he has been in great form in recent times. The Saurashtra batter had a fantastic strike rate of above 170 in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and was among the consistent run-scorers of the tournament. Vyas can play a big role in the middle order with his ability to hit maximums consistently and he is yet to bag an IPL contract. A lot of scouts have been looking out for talents like Vyas and the fact that he scores high percentage of his runs through boundaries might work in his favour. Franchises like Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have a lot of slots to fill up and they certainly will have their eyes set on the 26-year-old given the impact he has had of late. 2. Rahul Shukla It might be tough to believe for some people that Rahul Shukla made his IPL debut a decade ago, but indeed, the Jharkhand pacer is still up and running in the domestic circuit. His ability to hurry the batters with his pace and bounce earned him an IPL contract back in the day and was part of the Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) squads in the past. However, Shukla was quite erratic up front and played just seven games from the period of 2012 to the 2014 season. The right-arm quick has now managed to bring his career back on track with his stellar rhythm in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 as he bagged 16 scalps in seven matches with two five-wicket hauls. Shukla has been a regular name in the Jharkhand squad for years now and has finally got into his groove. His impressive numbers this year might be taken seriously by a lot of franchises and hence he might end up triggering a bidding war. 1. Narayan Jagadeesan Narayan Jagadeesan might end up among the most sought after players at the IPL 2023 auction after his phenomenal performance in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 season. The 26-year-old was released by the Chennai Super Kings franchise after featuring in just seven games since IPL 2020 and was never given a consistent run. The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter has had a fantastic performance in the List A format having smashed a phenomenal double ton against Arunachal Pradesh recently. His 277 run-knock off just 141 balls comprised 25 fours and 15 sixes and it turned out to be the highest individual score in List A cricket around the world. Also, Jagadeesan became the first batter to hit five consecutive tons in List A cricket and is topping the runs chart (Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022) by a huge margin. He is expected to be the top priority for a lot of teams given that he can do the wicketkeeping duties as well and can open the innings.
