IPL 2023: Match 16, Delhi Capitals (DC) Predicted Playing XI vs Mumbai Indians
Delhi Capitals will square off against Mumbai Indians on Tuesday, April 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Delhi Capitals (DC) will take the stage alongside Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 16th match of the ongoing season of the IPL 2023 on Tuesday, April 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Delhi have failed to get their act together in the marquee tournament so far and have succumbed to three consecutive losses.
Warner & Co. will look to put up a complete performance in the forthcoming game and conquer the five-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians. As the Delhi franchise bid to register their first win of the season, let us look at what starting XI they can come up with.
Here's Delhi Capitals’ predicted XI against Mumbai Indians
Openers: David Warner (c), Prithvi Shaw
David Warner is one of those players who make heads turn every time they step into the cricket field. He has obliterated bowling attacks at will and amassed truckloads of runs. The southpaw has featured in 165 matches in the lucrative T20 tournament and notched up 6039 runs at a strike rate of 139.95.
However, Warner has not been at his destructive best in IPL 2023, but going by the records, it is certain that he can pile up runs on a consistent basis. The veteran batter has scored 158 runs in three matches of IPL 2023 so far at a strike rate of 117.04. He would look to display his class on Tuesday and guide Delhi to their maiden victory.
The Delhi franchise might stick with Prithvi Shaw for the second opening slot. Though he has had a horror show with the bat thus far and managed only 19 runs in three games, he has been a match-winner for DC in the past and the team management could back him to come good in the upcoming encounter.
Middle Order: Manish Pandey, Phil Salt (wk), Rovman Powell
Manish Pandey has been a run-bank in the cash-rich league. He has featured in 161 matches and piled on 3648 runs at a strike rate of 121.48. Thus, Delhi acquired him at the IPL 2023 auction. He would look to put up a show with the bat in the ongoing edition of the T20 carnival.
Given Rilee Rossouw has not been at his best in IPL 2023 and scored only 44 runs in three outings, the think tank could draft Phil Salt into the side. Salt is known for playing a fearless brand of cricket and has shown his ability to take even the best of bowling attacks to the cleaners. Also, he has a safe pair of hands behind the stumps.
Barring Manish and Salt, DC have the services of Rovman Powell in the middle order. The 29-year-old is a marauder with the bat and has decimated bowling attacks with his power-hitting might. The West Indies batter would be eager to deliver the goods for Warner & Co. in the clash on Tuesday.
All-rounders: Lalit Yadav, Axar Patel
Lalit Yadav has been a proven performer in the Indian domestic circuit. He has scored 949 runs in 68 matches at a strike rate of 138.33 and bagged 40 wickets at an economy of 7.00. The 26-year-old fared well with the bat in the encounter against Rajasthan Royals and scored 38 runs off 24 balls. He would look to carry on the good work for the Delhi side in the upcoming clash as well.
Coming to Axar Patel, he is one of the finest spin-bowling all-rounders in the Indian cricketing circles at the moment. The 29-year-old has featured in 125 IPL matches and taken 102 wickets at an economy of 7.29. On the batting front, he has racked up 1189 runs in those outings at a strike rate of 129.24.
Though Axar has done a decent job with the bat in the 16th IPL edition and scored 54 runs in three matches at a strike rate of 138.46, he has been dismal with the ball and bagged just a wicket at an economy of 9.50. The ace all-rounder would look to bring his A-game into play against Rohit Sharma & Co.
Bowlers: Kuldeep Yadav, Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar, Khaleel Ahmed
Delhi Capitals have Kuldeep Yadav in the spin-bowling department. The 29-year-old has spun the web around the opposition and provided timely breakthroughs to his side. He has played 62 IPL games and picked up 63 wickets at an economy of 8.28.
On the fast-bowling front, Delhi possesses Anrich Nortje, Mukesh Kumar and Khaleel Ahmed in their arsenal. Nortje is known to rattle batters with his fiery pace and wreak havoc with the ball. However, he has been a pale shadow of his vintage self in the ongoing IPL season and leaked runs at an alarming rate of 10.37. The ace pacer would like to redeem himself in the upcoming game.
Talking about Mukesh Kumar, the 29-year-old has been a bankable name in the domestic circuit and dismantled batting line-ups for fun. But he has not been able to thrive in the IPL arena yet and has taken two scalps in three games at an economy of 9.33. Coming to Khaleel, the left-arm pacer has also been mediocre with his outings and conceded runs at an economy of 9.90. The Indian pace duo would look to put up an improved bowling display against Mumbai Indians.
