While the match could set the tone for the qualification for the teams, in any case, the two sides will be gunning to put their best foot forward and obtain a favourable result. LSG and MI have contested in just two matches thus far going by their head-to-head records, and it is the former that has stamped the authority on each occasion.
An exciting clash is on the cards as the two franchises will cross swords at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday, May 16. Mumbai and Lucknow are coming off wins from their previous fixtures and will be raring to keep their momentum intact.
Here’s Lucknow Super Giants’ predicted XI against Mumbai Indians:
Openers: Quinton de Kock (wk), Kyle Mayers
Kyle Mayers failed to hit the ground running in the previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The aggressive Caribbean hitter played a rather peculiar innings wherein he got two runs of 14 balls before his innings drew to a conclusion.
Despite this, the LSG think tank will continue to back him considering the type of performances he has displayed in the ongoing season. His partner, Quinton de Kock too failed to stay long as he could only score 29 off 19 balls, getting one six and three fours.
The opening duo of Mayers and de Kock will need to own their responsibility of laying down a solid foundation in the top-order for the rest of the unit to capitalize upon. It remains to be seen if they can carve out an improved innings in the forthcoming match against Mumbai Indians.
Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran, Prerak Mankad
Playing only his second match in the ongoing season, Prerak Mankad displayed his lethal hitting exploits during the match against Sunrisers. Coming in the middle order, Mankad remained unbeaten in his majestic knock of 64 off 45 balls which featured seven fours and two sixes. In addition to this, he raised vitals stands with Marcus Stoinis of 73 runs and followed it with an unconquered 58 off 23 balls with Nicholas Pooran.
Much like Mankad, the explosive Caribbean southpaw too was at his devastating best as he got a 13-ball 44*, cracking four sixes and three fours at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 338.46. The two will look to maintain their form in the forthcoming matches and get the vital runs coming in the middle order.
All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya (c)
After the dismissals of the openers, along with Mankad, Marcus Stoinis helped inject energy into the innings with his blazing knock. The star all-rounder slammed a 25-ball 40 which included three sixes and two fours.
The left-arm spinner not only restricted the rival batting unit for just 24 runs in his four overs, but also got the important wickets of his counterpart Aiden Markram and Glenn Phillips. Undoubtedly, the all-rounder pair will continue to display such kind of performances and get their side ahead in the remainder of the matches.
Bowlers: Amit Mishra, Yash Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Yudhvir Singh Charak, Avesh Khan
The bowling unit in the previous match against SRH proved to be expensive as they leaked too many runs in the first innings. Veteran spinner Amit Mishra completed his four overs, giving away 40 runs at an economy of 10.00 with just one scalp to his name.
Likewise, Ravi Bishnoi too had a forgetful outing as he got just two overs and leaked 23 runs at a dismal economy of 11.50, without any breakthroughs. The spinner has 12 wickets in 12 outings and will need to up his game in order to stay in contention for the IPL Purple Cap.
Pacer Avesh Khan too failed to challenge the rival batters as he proved to be the most expensive among the unit. In his two overs, Avesh gave away 30 runs at an economy of 15.00, despite getting one scalp under his belt. In a match where the bowlers were outrightly targeted, Yash Thakur relished a fine outing against Hyderabad.
The 24-year-old pacer returned a solid spell, getting one wicket for just 28 runs in his four overs. Meanwhile, Yudhvir Singh Charak, who made his way back into the XI, also got a wicket for 24 runs in his three overs. Considering that there are only two matches left in their campaign, the LSG bowling unit will need to up the ante and restrict the rival batting side from going overboard with the big runs.
