Lucknow Super Giants will take on Mumbai Indians in Match 63 of IPL 2023 on Tuesday, May 16 at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow. Both teams are coming into the fixture having won their respective last games and would look to continue their winning momentum in the upcoming match as well.

Mumbai beat Gujarat Titans by 27 runs in their last game while LSG beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets. The upcoming fixture is important for both teams to seal their spot in the playoffs. Both teams would be eager to register a win and make a smooth entry into the playoffs of the T20 extravaganza.

Mumbai are comfortably sitting on the third spot in the points table with seven wins from 12 matches having 14 points to their name. The Rohit Sharma-led side needs to win both of its remaining games to have a chance to finish in the top two positions in the league stage. It will give them an added advantage of playing the second qualifier if they lose the first.

However, if they end up losing one of their remaining fixtures, they would need to keep their net run rate in check as both Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings also have a chance to finish on 16 points by winning their remaining two matches. In such a scenario, they could eliminate MI on account of a better run rate.

Lucknow Super Giants' qualification scenario

On the other hand, LSG are ranked fourth on the points table with six wins from 12 games having 13 points to their name, as their clash against Chennai Super Kings was washed out, resulting in both the teams being rewarded with one point each.

A win in both of their remaining fixtures will seal their spot in the playoffs with ease. However, if they end up losing one of their remaining games, they will have to hope that PBKS, RCB and MI lose at least one of their remaining fixtures and finish on 14 points.

If the aforementioned results go in LSG's favour, they can directly qualify for the playoffs having 15 points to their name.
